Royal Opera House:
6 February, 2009
6 February marked a very special evening with Northern Ballet Theatre and the Royal Ballet
at the Royal Opera House in London. On offer for our supporters was a fabulous opportunity
to get closer to the Royal Ballet and support momentum, which will
give Northern Ballet Theatre our first permanent home in forty years.
A backstage tour of the Royal Opera House was followed by a pre-performance champagne reception.
After this was a performance of the Royal Ballet's Mixed Programme – The Seven Deadly
Sins / Carmen / DGV: Danse à grande vitesse. The evening offered a wonderful variety of
work including choreography by Christopher Wheeldon (DGV), music by George Bizet (Carmen) and a
fantastic adaptation of work by Bertolt Brecht (Seven Deadly Sins). Drinks were served in the
Conservatory during both intervals. Following the performance there was a party and supper
attended by the Artistic and Executive teams of both companies as well as dancers from NBT and
the Royal Ballet's Principle cast.
This was a one-off opportunity to celebrate the coming together of two of the nation's best
loved ballet companies and to really support a building project that will align the north of England
more closely with the quality of work and facilities that London enjoys.
All proceeds from the evening have gone towards the momentum campaign.
